COYER Summer Vacation BINGO

BINGO! I mean… errr… COYER?! That’s right y’all…! It’s COYER time and we have some new fun planned for you! I can’t believe COYER is actually here already – somehow it always manages to sneak up on me – but it’s time for some summer COYER fun! If you haven’t signed up yet, you still can! Head on over to our sign up post for the details anytime before August 1st. But hurry, you don’t want to miss the fun we’ve got planned!

Before I get too far along, though… do you like the new site?! Make sure you’ve followed us using all the links on the right – via Email, RSS, Twitter, Instagram, Bloglovin’ etc. ๐Ÿ™‚ This is now your one stop for everything you need to know about COYER!

Social Media Fun

That’s right y’all we’ve got lots of social media fun planned for you this time around (as usual… and not so usual).

Twitter Parties

We have 4 twitter parties scheduled. Here’s the schedule, so mark your calendars!

  • Sunday, July 10th
  • Saturday, July 23rd
  • Saturday, August 13th
  • Saturday, August 27th

They are always 4pm EST and now we’re going to be tweeting you from our official COYER twitter account. Make sure you’re follow us @coyerchallenge and we’ll still be using the hashtag #COYER.

Facebook Weekday Fun

If you haven’t joined the COYER Facebook Group yet, hurry up! It’s a great group that has grown to almost 100 members! Woo-hoo! It’s a great community, even when COYER isn’t going on. But when COYER is on, it’s the easiest place to get answers to questions and find someone to chat with. And that’s in addition to the organized fun! Here’s the schedule:

  • Monday Motivation: Tell us what you’re planning to read this week!
  • Teaser Tuesday: Give us a 1 to 2 sentence tease from your current read!
  • Who are you? Wednesday: Pick a character from your current read – would you like to be them and why? (or hate to be them and why?)
  • I Spy Thursday: This weekend favorite from last time is moving into a new spot. Berls, Stormi, or Michelle will post an I spy question and everyone has to scramble to find a book that meets the criteria. You donโ€™t have to be reading the book, just find it and post it. It could be as simple as โ€œI Spy a book with a red coverโ€ to as complicated as โ€œI spy a book with a pixie, a witch, and a vampire living in a church.โ€ We will have a book in mind when we post, but the fun is seeing all the bookโ€™s yโ€™all come up with.
  • TGIF: Tell us what you managed to read this week!

Facebook Weekend Fun

We’re going to have two sets of weekend activities this time around.

The First Three Weekends (6/25 & 6/26, 7/2 & 7/3, and 7/9 & 7/10):

  • Make A Connection Saturday: Weโ€™ll be making book chains with Make a Connection! Despite Michelle’s general dislike of this one, a few of us really enjoyed the crazy connections. As a reminder, here’s how it works: I will post a book that I’m reading and you have to find a way to connect the book youโ€™re reading. For example, Iโ€™m listening to Molly Harperโ€™s Snow Falling on Bluegrass, read by Amanda Ronconi. If you were reading A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon you could connect next (they connect on the word SNOW in the title). The next person might connect to you because they were reading Bitter Night by Diana Pharaoh Francis (They connect because of the author named Diana). And so on. Letโ€™s get creative with our connections and see how long we can make these chains!
  • Get to Know You Sunday: Weโ€™ve decided to move on from Tag Youโ€™re itโ€ฆ but this will still be a question to the group about something besides books. Michelle will ask a getting to know you question and everyone will get a chance to answer it. With several new members this should be a lot of fun ๐Ÿ™‚

The Remaining Weekends (starting 7/16):

  • COYER BINGO! Saturday: Get your BINGO, errr COYER, boards ready folks! That’s right, we’re playing our version of BINGO this summer! I’ll give full details below, but post your winning COYER boards on Saturdays!
  • Winner, Winner! COYER board winner! Sunday: We’ll announce the COYER board winner for the week on Sundays, so make sure you get your winning boards posted on Saturday! (details below)

We wanted to give an added twist to those who might like a little more of a challenge, but without making it as complicated as the scavenger hunt. Since this is a social media game, you have absolutely NO OBLIGATION to participate. We hope you will try it, because we think it will be fun, though ๐Ÿ™‚
Note:Due to a desire to participate from some who don’t use Facebook, we will also post COYER Bingo call numbers here on the blog on Saturdays. As long as you post your board(s) on Facebook or in the comments section of the blog post by the end of the day Saturday you will be included in that week’s COYER Bingo drawing. Winners will be announced Sundays on blog and Facebook ๐Ÿ™‚
Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Get your COYER Boards. Check out the fantastic COYER boards that Michelle designed for us (example on #4 below)! You can use as many or as few of the boards (there are 4) as you would like simultaneously, just like in real BINGO. You can download them as .jpg files or 1 .pptx file. The .pptx file is setup with editable text boxes for book titles – just make sure you download it as a powerpoint if you want the editable text boxes.
  2. Mark off squares as you read. Each square on the COYER boards has a genre in it. Some genres appear more than once. Some genres appear somewhat generally and then also with specific breakdowns. When you read a book, you pick the ONE spot you want to use it in.
    • EXAMPLE: Say I just read Fifty Shades of Grey. I could pull up COYER Board One (Board numbers are in the bottom right corner) and write in Fifty Shades of Grey in spot C11 – New Adult – OR spot C21 – Contemp – OR spot O7 – Erotica – OR spot O12- Romance – OR spot E4 – Romance. There are several places it could go… you decide where based on what else your reading you want it to go. Then you write (or type) it in.
  3. Post a quick review on Goodreads. Even if you’re planning to post a full review and link it to COYER later, give us a quick review on goodreads so we’ll have some way of verifying that you read the book. And while we aren’t requiring this, it wouldn’t hurt to make a note that you’re reading it for square C11 on Board One, for example, at the end of your review.
  4. Post your WINNING board on Saturday. On Saturdays (starting 7/16) we will give you 5 call numbers and ask – Does anyone have COYER? – and if you’ve got a winning board, you’ll post your winning board. All the boards have the same call numbers, so there will be lots of ways that you could get the winning combination. We don’t care if you print your boards and write on them then post a picture or are typing on the board, just show us your winning combination.
    • EXAMPLE: It’s Saturday and I post in the Facebook group, “C1, O7, Y13, E19, R25 – Does anyone have COYER?” You look at your Board One and it looks like this:
      COYER Board 1 with entries
      Look at C1 – The Drafter; O7 – Fifty Shades; Y13 – Rhythm & Bluegrass; E19 – Good in Bed; R25 – Buffy
You just won! You have read a book for each call number! It doesn’t matter that you have MORE spaces filled, what matters is that you have the call numbers we just gave filled. You would post this board.
  5. Clear your WINNING board on Sunday. Sundays we will declare a winner from those who posted a winning COYER board and that person will get to pick a prize from the COYER prize list. EVERYONE who posted a winning board will need to wipe their winning boards clean and start them over. So that means even the spaces that weren’t part of the winning combination get wiped off. On the board above that includes O2, E9, O12, O15, C16, Y18, and E24. If you’re playing several boards, don’t wipe clean boards that didn’t win yet!
  6. Do it all again! That’s it. Just play Bingo with us all summer. If you don’t post a winning board on Saturday just keep playing your board until you get a winning combo completed and then post it on a Saturday when we ask… Anyone have COYER?!

We’ll be doing yet another COYER Instagram Photo Challenge! It will be all of August, so check back towards the end of July for the official list. And make sure you’re following/tagging us on Instagram so we can keep up with your entries!

Read-a-thon Note

Just an FYI note… Michelle and I (Berls) will be doing a series read-a-thon challenge on our own blogs in August. It’ll be a great way to push through the last month of COYER, so watch for that if you want to join us ๐Ÿ™‚

The Review Linky and Grand Prizes

Even though COYER is about the community and the fun, the reason it got started was getting those books reviewed… so those reviews really are the heart of COYER. This summer you can read ANY book LEGALLY obtained, regardless of price or format. Yes, library books and borrowed books and even Kindle Unlimited books count. Yes, eBooks, audiobooks, paperbacks, and hardcovers count. They all count!

In addition to the weekly social media prizes and twitter party prizes and COYER Board prizes (geez, we like to give stuff away, huh?) we’ll have (3) $10 gift cards to Amazon or Barnes and Noble up for grabs at the end. The winner will be chosen randomly from the review linky. Every time you link a review you increase your chances of winning. That simple! The most we’ve ever done is 884 reviews… let’s see if we can beat it! The review linky will close September 2nd at 11:59pm CST.

So that this page won’t take so long to load and the review linky will be easier to access it has a page all of its own… right here! You’ll also be able to access it from the top Navigation bar – under Current Review Linky.

Note: Because weโ€™ll be giving away so much during COYER (not just these three grand prize giveaways), we wonโ€™t be mailing any prizes until COYER is over. Only eBook prizes will be sent during the event.

Questions, Comments, or Concerns?

Ask in the comment section below and one of us will get back to you ASAP. The Facebook group is also a great place to ask questions, because then you can get answers from everyone not just Michelle, Stormi, or I. If you want to ask a question via email, please direct it to the official COYER email address: coyerchallenge@gmail.com

Thanks for spending your Summer COYER-ing with us! Check back Monday June 27th for the first Update Post! Until then, we’ll see you in the Facebook group and on Twitter! Happy Reading!

    • It’s a lot to take in, I’m sure! We like to have a lot of fun activities ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great time and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

    • That’s what we’re hoping; it’s just genre based and no points to keep track of. Hopefully that equals easier but still fun and challenging ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. *throws confetti* YAY – COYER is officially open. And my goodness, you ladies have come up with even more fun stuff for us all to participate in this time around – it’s awesome ๐Ÿ˜€

I don’t use facebook but I wanted to participate in all of that, so I made one just now for this. It’s empty, I hope that’s okay.

    • That’s fine, just let us know your user name so we will know to approve you. We get lots of spammer requests and they tend to have blank profiles ๐Ÿ™‚
