  1. Wow, you ladies weren’t kidding about this one being tough! So if I understand this correctly, for 12 whole weeks we can’t request any new e-ARCs and read them? And we won’t be able to read any of our Christmas or Hanukkah presents until March, either. (Well, only 1 in 11 books.) Yikes, I’m not sure I can do that! On the other hand, it could sure jumpstart my The Backlist Reader Challenge…

Also, since I can’t remember which books I paid 99 cents for and which I paid $1.99 for, I foresee a lot of checking past orders in Amazon…

  2. YAY!! I actually love that we’re truly going back to basic, and that you are going to help me stay fully on top of those ARCs, ladies 🙂 (I already have 36 books that won’t be released until 2017!)
And it’s nice to have a generator so that every now and then we can read a more expensive book and still have it count for COYER 🙂
Have a fabulous Friday, ladies! xoxo

  3. Woohoo! I’m in. I have a mountain of cheapies, freebies, and ARCs that need my attention. Your theme, rules, and events have me so excited.

    Good luck everyone!

  4. I probably will read some books that don’t count during this challenge as well as you did got pretty strict with this one ;), but it’s good motivation to get a dent into those cheap books and review copies that we already own. I’ll be scheduling my sign-up post for December and will link up when it’s live :). I can’t wait for coyer to start!

  5. The finger pointing is hilarious! So Berls, you’re the hard-a$$ this go ’round…got it! I love the new rules. It sounds like it’s going to be so much fun! I’m really looking forward to it. I’m off to create COYER Blackout shelves on my ereaders!! Woot! <3

  6. So to be clear, we may be reading other books, like library books, but it doesn’t count in this challenge. Or ARCs we got after Dec 17th. But it is still a good incentive to read / listen to other things we have in our TBR and I have MANY. Anne

  7. Apparently, you can only see your purchases for the last 6 months. I’ve not bought an ebook for my Nook in over 2-3 years. So I can tell which were free or $1 for Coyer. I can take a guess but I don’t know for sure.

    • I don’t know if B&N does this, but Amazon shows 6 months by default, and there’s a pull-down menu that you can change to show the current year (or more.) I just went through and made a list of all my free and 99 cent books for 2016. When I have more time, I’ll look further back, but there’s more in that one year than I can possibly read during COYER!

        • Lol! I know what you mean. Take your best guess. It’s all honor system anyway. So if you don’t think you’d have paid more than $1.00 for it, we’ll trust your judgment 🙂

    • Crazy, I didn’t know that. Take your best guess, I’d say. And if the book is within the price range on Kindle that will work too.

OH MY GOSH THIS SOUNDS AMAZING and also INSANELY difficult. So to be clear, we can’t read any books except for the ebooks we have that were less than one dollar? (Wow, that’s crazy) What happens if you run out of books? I’m not sure I have enough to last that long, haha! If I run out, could I request more on Netgalley or something?

    • The only books for COYER that count are the free or 99 cents books. You are free to read whatever books you want during the challenge they just wont count. And remember you have the generator so you can add any book in after you read ten free or 99 cents.
Once the challenge starts you can not request any more books from Netgalley or anyplace else. You must read what you already have. 🙂 It is going to be a very hard challenge but it will also be a lot of fun.

I am actually stocking up on some freebies and grabbing some 99 cent books so I have enough to last the challenge 🙂

  9. All I can say is thank goodness Amazon has an ‘acquire date’ on each ebook purchase! I used to keep emails until I had posted a review, but then my email account maxxed out and I had to delete them all to make more space. Anyway, I stopped counting at 100 COYER eligible books. Linking up this afternoon. Working on post until then (well, a little time for sleep and reading.) *lol*

  10. […] COYER Blackout began December 17. It’s hosted by Berls of Fantasy is More Fun, Michelle of Because Reading, and Stormi of Books, Movies, Reviews, Oh My!  The rules are strict: only ebooks you owned or had requested prior to Dec. 17, that cost $0.99 or less. (ARCs count, and you can read the details by clicking on the image above.)  I’m setting a goal of 12 books by March 3, but I might increase it later on. (This is my official sign-up post.) So far, I’ve read 1 book that counts toward COYER: A Circle of Quiet by Madeleine L’Engle (ARC.) […]

  11. I’m a little late to the party but just finished a book that qualifies. To tell the truth I have hundreds if not thousands of books that qualify as I do most of my one-click shopping on freebies and eARCs etc. Is it ok to join even if I’m late? I’m going to go ahead and set up my post on my blog anyway and if it’s too late I’ll participate informally.
